Law enforcement officers from the Abbeville County Sheriff's Office and the Abbeville Police Department visited Cherokee Trail Elementary to speak about the dangers of illegal drug use as well as the dangers of misusing prescription medication during the 2022 Red Ribbon Week.
NFP organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign in response to the murder of Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. After his murder, parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raising awareness of the destruction caused by drugs in America. This year's theme was "Celebrate Life. Live Drug-Free!"
