first graders with applesauce

Mrs. Magaha’s first graders spent the last two weeks learning all about apples! Students learned about the life cycle of an apple, the different varieties of apples, and learned that it takes about 6 years for an apple seed to turn into an apple! Through a book study of Applesauce Day, students learned that settings in the story can change and they learned how to retell a story. Students sequenced the family’s tradition of making applesauce and used what they learned in the story to create their own directions for making applesauce! Mrs. Magaha’s class ended their study of apples by tasting and graphing their favorite apples, and enjoying the fruits of their labor when they gobbled up the yummy applesauce they made!
