science night at cte

Almost 300 students, parents, and community members visited Cherokee Trail Elementary’s Magical Math & Science Night on March 7, 2023.  In addition to a spaghetti dinner, the school hosted various STEAM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) stations with hands-on activities including making lava lamps, playing math games, exploring building shapes and towers, writing with invisible ink, and many more.  One of the highlights of the evening was a demonstration of how to create “elephant toothpaste” by creating a chemical reaction to produce foam.  Many students loved the emphasis on the arts, with a student art exhibit and the opportunity to play musical instruments and explore sound.  Sixth and seventh graders displayed their science fair projects, with David Hering’s Honeybee project earning top honors.  Additionally, each child that attended selected a free non-fiction book as their parents received tips for helping their students succeed. Our Title 1 Family Event encouraged our students to think about their futures as scientists, technology specialists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians.

We would like to thank our community partners for their participation: Clemson Extension Snap Ed, Abbeville County 4-H, Erskine College, Abbeville County Humane Society, and Due Weat Robotics
