second grader participating in economics lesson

For the past few weeks, students in second grade have been studying economics. As part of this study, students had various opportunities to earn money each day in our classroom. However, they also had to pay expenses at the end of each week. Expenses included rent, bills, and fines for things like not returning signed papers. Students earned their income in a number of ways including keeping their desk area neat, turning in their homework each day, and starting their morning work as soon as possible. Students were responsible for keeping up with their income throughout the week, and they could choose to spend all of it or save some of it. They had so much fun shopping and even applied skills we’ve learned in math about counting money. Several even bought items for siblings and friends. Thank you to all parents who donated small toys and other items to help make this fun learning opportunity possible!
